CV format guide

What to know about local CV conventions before you apply in this country.

Local term: 履歴書 (Rirekisho)Photo: Usually expected

Japan uses a standardized "rirekisho" form: 1 fixed page, with a strictly-specified photo required (3x4cm, formal, taken within the last 3-6 months, placed top-right). A separate "shokumu-keirekisho" document covers detailed work history.

These are general guidelines based on common practice, not hard rules — a specific employer's expectations can differ. When in doubt, it's safe to keep both a with-photo and a without-photo version ready.
