CV format guide
What to know about local CV conventions before you apply in this country.
In South Africa, a photo is generally discouraged unless specifically requested — the Employment Equity Act leads some HR departments to reject CVs with photos. 1-2 pages, up to 3 for senior roles, is normal. Government roles (Z83 form) require an ID number, but private-sector CVs should leave it out.
These are general guidelines based on common practice, not hard rules — a specific employer's expectations can differ. When in doubt, it's safe to keep both a with-photo and a without-photo version ready.
