Software developer: cover letter example

When to use it

For frontend, backend, mobile or full-stack roles: leads with results achieved, not a list of technologies.

The full letter

Dear [Hiring manager's name],

I am applying for the [role — e.g. Backend Developer] position at [Company name]. For [X] years I have built production systems with [core technologies], and I care equally about code quality, testing and the product's business results.

At [Current company] I work on [project]. There I [specific technical achievement — e.g. "cut API response time from 400 ms to 120 ms"] and [second achievement — e.g. "raised test coverage from 30% to 80%"]. I also run code reviews and mentor newer developers.

I am especially interested in [Company name]'s work on [product or technical challenge — e.g. high load, scaling]. I have used [technology/requirement from the ad] on [project], and you can see examples of my code at [GitHub link].

My CV is attached. I'm happy to prove myself in a technical interview or a take-home task.

Replace the parts [in square brackets] with your own details. Cut generic phrases; add specific facts and numbers.
